
Peter Fouts is an experienced criminal trial attorney who has served as lead counsel for more than a thousand clients across a wide range of criminal matters. Since graduating from law school, Peter has tried cases ranging from murder charges to traffic offenses, building a reputation as a skilled and dedicated courtroom advocate. Peter grew up in Valparaiso, Indiana, and graduated from Chesterton High School before attending Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana. While at Wabash, he was a member of the football team, Sigma Chi Fraternity, the Sphinx Club, and the Interfraternity Council. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Rhetoric. Peter began his legal studies at Valparaiso University Law School. He was a member of the Valparaiso Honors Program and served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Judge Julia Jent of the Porter County Superior Court. He later transferred to the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis, where he completed an externship with IUPUI’s Athletic Department and received the Patrick J. Burns Excellence in Tax Award. Shortly after graduating, Peter secured his first not-guilty jury verdict for a client charged with Level 3 Felony Rape while practicing criminal defense in Indianapolis—an early milestone that set the tone for his trial-focused career.
In 2021, Peter returned to Northwest Indiana to join Stracci Law Group. He has since handled cases throughout Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Jasper, Starke, and Newton Counties. His primary focus is DUI defense. Peter has completed the NHTSA Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Practitioner Course and is a graduate of the ICLEF Trial Advocacy Skills College. He is known for his aggressive and detail-oriented approach to challenging standardized field sobriety tests and the admissibility of breath test evidence through depositions, evidentiary hearings, and trial advocacy. In addition to DUI defense, Peter has successfully assisted clients with major felony and misdemeanor cases, expungements, and the restoration of firearm rights across numerous Indiana counties.
Since returning to the Region, Peter has built strong relationships within the Northwest Indiana legal community. Peter has been recognized as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers from 2024-2026. He is a member of the National College for DUI Defense, the Lake County Bar Association, the Porter County Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, and the Indiana Public Defender Council. Peter is admitted to practice in all Indiana state courts.
